Anybody looking for roomy ski runs and laid-back Tiroelan charm should try St. Jakob in Defereggental in the Hohe Tauern National Park, one of Europe’s biggest nature reserves.
For skiers and snowboarders, there are 7 ski lifts and over 21.5km of pistes, ranging from 1,400 to 2,525m above the tree line.

In the summer, the village draws many mountain bikers and hikers keen to explore the huge diversity of alpine plants and animals in the surrounding area, including ibexes and bearded vultures.
Over 300 km of hiking paths await summer visitors, the most popular of which are the the Blumenweg Oberseite, the Water Adventure Path and the Innerstes Defereggental.
